Bansko is one of the biggest and most attractive mountain resorts in Bulgaria and during the last years it has been developed as the best and most modern ski resort. It is situated at the foot of Pirin Mountain. Bansko is a small cosy town with many luxury hotels and small hostels. The lovely unique nature of Pirin Mountain flanks it. There is a lot to explore in Bansko. It is not only the magnificent slopes and venerable woods that the visitors will always remember.
Bansko usually has a short hot summer and long mild winter. The average temperature during January, the coldest month, is - 1.9ÀC. Snow falls are abundant, providing a constant winter snow cover up to 2 m thick.
Bansko town has a good selection of shops selling clothes, ski and snowboard gear, souvenirs, electrical goods, bikes etc. There is also a wide choice of cafes and bars. Prices for locally produced goods such as fruit and vegetables are very reasonable. Imported goods such as electrical items tend to be sold at similar prices to the UK.
Some shops close for lunch from 1 pm until 3pm and are open until 8pm. There are also some 24 hour mini markets for general groceries and supplies. There is also a Sunday market with local crafts and goods.
